Ranjan Chakrabarti (born in 1959) earned his doctoral (1991) and master's (1981) from Jadavpur University, Calcutta. Dr Chakrabarti is currently Professor of History (formerly Professor and Chair) at Jadavpur University.Professor Chakrabarti, formerly a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Brown University (1995-96), is the executive Director of the Association of South Asian Environmental Historians (http://asaeh.org) He is a member of the editorial board of the prestigious International journal Global Environment (Naples, Italy). His major publications include Authority and Violence in Colonial Bengal (1998) Situating Environmental History, ed. (Delhi: Manohar, 2007), Does Environmental History Matter?, ed.
