Stefania Gallini (Milan 1969) is Associate Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, where she lives and work since 2002. She graduated in Political Science at the Università degli Studi di Milano (1995), did a MA (area Studies-Latin America) at the University of London (1998), and hold a PhD in Latin American History from the Università degli Studi di Genova (2002). She is a member of the Board of the Sociedad Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Historia Ambiental (SOLCHA) and a founding member of the Red Colombiana de Historia Ambiental. Her research interests are the social and environmental construction of agroexporting regions in Latin America throughout the XIX and XX centuries, the history of waste in urban environments, methodology and theory of environmental history research, and historical cartography.
At the Universidad Nacional de Colombia she coordinates the Environmental History Research Group, that is a section of a broader interdisciplinary research group called History, the Environment and Politics. She regularly teaches under- and postgraduate courses in environmental history and run a Research Seminar for graduate students writing their thesis on environmental history or political ecology topics. She is attached to the History Department and an active collaborator at the Institute of Environmental Studies (IDEA) of the Universidad Nacional.
