Walter Palmieri is researcher at the Institute of Studies on Mediterranean Societies (ISSM, Naples, Italy) belonging to CNR (National Research Council). He is also member of the editors’ board of “I frutti di Demetra. Rivista di Storia e Ambiente” (Review of History and Environment). His research focuses on Southern Italy before unification with an emphasis on territory, agrarian issues and the economic associations of the period. A further field of investigation regards deforestation in Southern Italy in the 19th century. He is currently working at a data-base on landslides and floods in Southern Italy during the last centuries and their historical significance.
